Czech Republic: Immigration Bulletin – Companies Must Notify Labour Office About Employment Start Date of Work Permit Holders
Additional immigration step introduced for non-EU foreigners effective January 1st
Non-EU foreigners obtaining a work permit for the Czech Republic must be registered with the labor office, according to an amendment to the country’s labor code.
Previously notifying the labor office about start of employment was only required for EU nationals. However effective January 1, 2012 non-EU work permit holders must also be registered with their local labor office latest on the start date of their employment. Registration may be completed within one day and personal appearance of employee will not be required. Further registration requirements are yet to be defined by authorities.
This amendment is part of a larger reform package introduced by the Czech parliament. As part of the reform probationary periods of managerial employees are increased to to six months and fixed-term employment to three years.
