Qatar: Curiosity – Residence Visa Granted Based on Property Ownership
Human sponsor no longer required to receive residence visas
The State of Qatar witnessed a considerable economic rise in the real estate sector when, in 2006, foreign nationals were granted the right to buy and own property in the country.
To further encourage foreign investment, Qatar has allowed non-Qatar nationals who are investing in real estate to obtain residence visas without the otherwise required human sponsorship.
Applicants must obtain property ownership documents, certificate of good behavior and authenticated medical check-up in order to qualify for real estate residence visas. Once granted, the visa is valid for five years for investors and their dependents with the possibility of renewal.
The prospective buyer will have to go to the office for the registration of real estate for non-Qataris located at the Doha Municipality building in Al-Sadd, where the real estate section will first ensure that the property is indeed located in the areas as sanctioned by the law.
After the property is registered, the Ministry of Interior will process the residence visa. Based on the legislation, non-Qataris may buy real estate in 18 regions of the country.
