12th International Istanbul BiennialThe 12th Istanbul Biennial, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, will be held from September 17 to November13, 2011. Due to the unique character of the Biennial’s exhibitions, over the last two decades it has risen to be one of the most famous and critically acclaimed fixtures on the international arts calendar.

The title of the 12th Istanbul Biennial is Untitled (12th Istanbul Biennial), 2011. The title and the visual identity refer to the work of Cuban American artist, Felix Gonzalez-Torres. While his work will not be directly on display at this year’s Biennial, his oeuvre informs the entire exhibition in many subtle ways. The Biennial pays hommage in its themes and presentation to the ways in which Gonzalez-Torres focused on specific levels of communication, where language, names, places, dates and titles are represented in more abstract and poetic ways.

Move One’s Fine Art Shipping division is proud to be a part of such a reputable event, and will be handling the art transportation of exhibiting Hungarian artists. The satisfaction involved in being a key logistics partner of the Biennial is all the greater for knowing that Hungarian artist Dóra Maurer will be one of the central figures of the event. One of the major forces in the Hungarian art scene since the 1970s, Maurer has been enormously influential both through her art and as a Professor at the Hungarian Fine Arts Academy.

The aim of the Istanbul Biennial is to facilitate and encourage a free exchange of inspiration and ideas among artists from all over the world. The events have attracted some of the world’s leading exhibitors, such as British Turner prize winners, Gillian Wearing and Gavin Turk.
