Through the process of artificial insemination, scientists are able to create a hybrid out of two animals of different species but with the same genus.
Hybrid animals are cross breeds and exist mostly in captivity, though some can be a mix of domesticated and wild animals. Amongst many others, cross breeds include ligers, zedonkies, wolphins and leopons. Naturally, animals cannot cross breed, but there have been reports of donkeys and zebras mating, although the occurrence is extremely rare.
