October 13, 2009
Even though the station has been around for a few years now, a lot of you might hear of it for the first time from us.
While your dogs or cats are all alone at home, with you being away at work or running errands, make sure you entertain them with DogCatRadio!
DogCatRadio.com was originally created by Adrian Martinez in 2005 to keep lonely dogs and cats entertained while they’re alone. The station broadcasts music and in between tracks, offers tips and practical advices for the pet owners alongside barks and meows 17 hours a day. Besides other DJs, founder, Martinez spins the records himself and according to him, Elvis Presley’s ‘Hound Dog’ is the all time most requested song on the radio.

DogCatRadio.Com History
DogCatRadio was inaugurated by Martinez in 2005 when he was faced with a nervous, restless cat at home. One day he discovered that Snickers calmed down as soon as he turned on the radio. He says that the station was created exclusively for pet lovers, featuring upbeat music for pets and humans to enjoy as well as headline news for owners and pet friendly webisodes that are geared toward travel destinations, creative home ideas, training tips and more for pet lovers who enjoy doing everything with their furry buddies. The response from listeners was enthusiastic and today listeners, pets and humans, number in the millions.
DogCatRadio.com Broadcasts
DogCatRadio.com owner Adrian Martinez, during an interview, says he chooses what to broadcast from requests by pet owners, product news from companies, pet experts that call into the station to discuss pet topics. The show is also broadcast live from various pet expos or broadcasts pre-recorded segments. An example is the SuperZoo, an international pet expo that is held in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay’s convention center in September 2008.
DogCatRadio.com Psychological Effect on Pets
DogCatRadio.com was not based on any particular psychological study but Martinez says that it has been known for a long time that pets enjoy soothing sounds which is why most pet owners leave the TV or radio on for their pets when leaving for work. He feels that ‘we help owners feel connected to their pets through our radio station. Pet owners actually call us up to throw a shout out to their pets such as ‘I’d like to say hi to Muffins who’s listening at home. Mommy loves you Muffin.’ Other owners call in to request that the DJ wish their pet a happy birthday over the radio during the pet birthday party. DogCatRadio.com receives responses with praise and sometimes calls from saddened pet owners whose pets have died.
DogCatRadio.com Listener Response
DogCatRadio’s human listeners have attested to the stations success with their pets. One listener wrote that her cat twitches her paw in time with the music, another maintains that her Boston terrier sings along with tunes that are being played, others send pictures of their cats and dogs and one couple asked that a song be dedicated to their pet who was recovering from breast cancer surgery.
Besides nationwide recognition, DogCatRadio.com was honored the ‘Wave of the Future’ award from PETA in 2005 and also received splendid reviews by the city of Los Angeles.
