Russian alphabetMove One is pleased to announce two new additions to its virtual City Guides™ series. They include complete guides for the Kazakh cities, Astana and Almaty, being released today.

These videos will provide expatriates with a comprehensive guide to living in Kazakhstan. They were created with insight provided by local residents and professionals, giving newly relocated assignees a source of indispensable information they would otherwise have to find out for themselves.

For many expats in the process of moving abroad, the knowledge that a familiar language awaits them in their new destination – or a means of easily communicating with their new community – can offer a great sense of comfort and reassurance.

While Kazakh is Kazakhstan’s official language, Russian is also spoken by 95 percent of the population. Although the Kazakh language is said to be easier to learn than those of the surrounding regions, for many foreigners it is perceived as very difficult to understand and especially to pronounce.

The video: The Kazakh Language introduces expats to this member of the Turkic language family, in hopes of giving you a better understanding before your big move.

Even though young locals under their 20s, as well as some customs and airport official will most likely speak a little English, it is still hard to get by without having at least a basic knowledge in either Kazakh or Russian.

Familiarizing yourself with the Cyrillic alphabet and learning a few phrases before arrival will therefore enable you to communicate with locals on a daily basis, making the transition into your new home much more enjoyable.
