IMPORT OF HOUSEHOLD PETS

Moving to a new country with your pet can be a hassle if you are not familiar with the complex rules and regulations governing the transportation of animals. It is highly recommended that you use a professional pet transportation service to avoid the many problems that can arise if transit is not handled properly. Move One’s Pet Transportation department provides top-notch pet relocation services and advises clients in our many locations on the requirements needed to import or export their beloved pet.

When importing pets into Slovakia, a vet needs to examine the pet at the point of origin. After all certificates are issued the pet can be exported from the origin country. Once the pet arrives at Bratislava airport, a vet will examine the animal, check all documents and, if all is in order, the pet can be released.

Required documents for customs clearance:

  • Pet passport
  • The pet must be microchipped
  • Health certificate
  • Vaccination certificate
  • Ownership papers
  • Copy of owner’s passport
  • Original power of attorney in Hungarian, permitting Move One to customs clear the pet. It can be sent by fax or as an e-mail attachment. Fax header and footer must be readable

Documents above cannot be older than 48 hours considering the departure date. Photocopies of all documents need to be included.

When exporting pets out of Slovakia, the actual export has to be done via Budapest, Hungary.
Please leave at least a week prior to the travel date to gather all necessary documents.

The following documents are needed for pet export:

  • Pet passport
  • The pet must be microchipped
  • Health certificate
  • Vaccination certificate
  • Ownership papers
  • Copy of owner’s passport
  • Power of attorney in Hungarian, permitting Move One to customs clear the pet. It can be sent by fax or as an e-mail attachment. Fax header and footer must be readable
  • Certificate from the district veterinarian, stating that export to the destination country is possible, and there are no infection risks at destination (this is only needed if the shipment goes to a non EU country)

Documents above cannot be older than 48 hours considering the departure date. Photocopies of all documents need to be included.

To make the journey as comfortable as possible for your pet we recommend the following:

  • Let your pet get accustomed to the kennel before it travels. Five days are usually enough for your pet to adjust to the kennel environment
  • Animals can get airsick too. Give your pet a small meal the evening before it travels and no later than 12 hours before the flight
  • Do not give your pet anything to drink within 4 hours of departure
  • Make sure that your dog or cat goes to the toilet before it travels
  • Fix a label with the animal’s name and feeding instructions (preferably in English) on the side of the kennel
