valentines-day-coupleGentlemen take note, it’s coming. Put a big red circle round February 14th, better still, make it heart-shaped. Valentine’s Day is on its way. So, if you want to hit the brownie-point jackpot this year, you’ll start thinking of the most unique, romantic gift you can muster.  Expat Echo has put together some suggestions to help you on your quest.

Jewlery: For something truly unique, Tomas Sabo is always a favorite. The shop off Vaci is particularly good at helping hubbies/boyfriends select something nice!  Girls, you might also want to head to the shop since they  have gorgeous men’s watches!  Looking for that perfect memento of having lived in Budapest, then head to Swarovski for some beautiful crystal jewelry.  If it’s real diamonds and gems you are after then THE place is Caprice.

Flowers: Head to Ariosa, Dist VII, more an atelier than a florist’s, with their original floral sculpture with flowers from Hungary and all around the world.  For something funky and chic, head to Fleurt in the castle district, their arrangements are sure to make her heart flutter!

Lingerie: If you want your own Valentine’s gift wrapped up in luxury, then for lingerie, don’t dare go anywhere but Wolford (Dists. II/V/VI) or La Perla (in the Four Seasons Hotel) . Both have underwear so good, you’ll have to use all your powers to persuade her to part with it – now there’s a challenge!

Chocolates: For age old Hungarian excellence in the confectionery department, it has to be a selection of Szamos delights. For international chocolate delights there is always the Godiva, at the Marriott Hotel, Dist V. or Belgian inspired indulgence from Belga

Restaurant specials: Most restaurants will be hosting a Valentine’s dinner on the night of the 14th.  Layout 1Make sure you make a reservation and don’t be surprised if your favorite restaurant has removed its regular menu for a special Valentine’s menu.  Special menus listed on the Expat Echo;

Let yourself indulge in the bubbly and vino and take advantage of Budapest’s chauffeur services!  They’ll drive your car home for you.  See the list of available chauffeurs here.

All you singles out there, listen up! Don’t let Valentine’s day bum you out, Manga Cowboy is hosting a Speed Dating Night on Friday February 12th! Who knows, you might just find your valentine!
