Move One and the Days of Culture in Ashgabat
Move One will also be in charge to ship the exhibition back to Austria at the end of May. On display will be 200 works by Austrian photographer Harry Weber from his ‘Vienna Project’ collection. The full collection of around 30,000 snapshots was commissioned in 2007 by the Municipal Department for Cultural Affairs and offers a personal portrait of Weber’s hometown.
The presentation of the exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan is part of the ‘Days of Culture of the city of Vienna’, an event organized by the Ministry of Culture and Broadcasting of Turkmenistan jointly with Austria.
‘The Days of Culture’ opened at the Palace of Mukams (melodies) in Ashgabat with a concert featuring ballet dancers, opera singers and musicians – including soloists of the famous Viennese ensembles, including the symphony orchestra of Strauss. Austrian musicians also met with their counterparts in the Turkmen National Conservatoire and gave a master class for college students.
The President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov sent a welcome message to the participants and guests of Days of Culture. He noted that ‘this forum is intended to be a shining symbol of ever widening and developing cultural contacts, further strengthening the relations of friendship between the peoples of Turkmenistan and Austria.’
The Museum of Fine Arts in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan founded in 1927 by Russian sculptor A.A Karelin has more than 6,000 exhibits include paintings, sculpture, and graphics by Turkmen, Russian and foreign artists. The Museum moved to a new building on February 15, 2005.
