Delivering Vaccines to the Heart of Africa – How Hard Can It Be? 🌍💉

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the biggest challenges across Africa wasn’t willingness to vaccinate — it was moving and storing vaccines safely. Many countries had almost no refrigerated transport: Cameroon had one refrigerated truck, Mali had two.

Even today, the challenges of Africa’s cold chain logistics are enormous:

• Limited specialized equipment
• Flooded roads and equipment breakdowns
• Delays and handovers between partners with different levels of training and resources

What may seem simple is in fact a unique and groundbreaking solution for this part of Africa. Move One has successfully set up a new vaccine delivery route from Chad into the refugee areas of Sudan — most likely the first time vaccines have been delivered via this corridor, and the
first to reach some of the most war-torn and isolated regions of the country.

Logistics in Africa isn’t easy. But with the right planning, commitment, and expertise, it is possible.
